WHAT, HOW AND WHY CROSSFIT: INTENSITY

| By Coach Matt Sherburne

When most people hear the word CrossFit, they picture exhaustion, heavy weights, and workouts that leave people flat on the floor.

The truth is much simpler.

The goal of CrossFit isn’t to destroy you. The goal is to help you become a healthier, stronger, more capable version of yourself—and to do it for life.

What Intensity Really Means

Intensity is one of the most misunderstood parts of CrossFit.

It doesn’t mean training until you’re sick. It doesn’t mean lifting weights you’re not ready for. It doesn’t mean being sore for days or having a coach constantly yelling at you for more.

Intensity simply means getting outside of your comfort zone (safely) and giving maximum effort for where you are today, to yield maximum results!

Some days you’ll feel amazing. You’ll sleep well, have plenty of energy, and be ready to push hard.

Other days, life wins. Work is stressful. The kids keep you up all night. Your nutrition isn’t perfect. You’re running on fumes.

Both days count.

A good workout isn’t defined by how much weight you lift or how fast you finish. A good workout is one that challenges you appropriately and leaves you better than when you walked in.

Why Coaching Matters

At Misfit Gym Windham, we don’t expect every member to perform at the same level or have the same skill set.

Whether you’re brand new to exercise, have an injury or physical limitation, returning after years away, or an experienced athlete, every workout can be adjusted to fit your current abilities and goals.

Our coaches learn who you are. We pay attention to how you’re moving, how you’re feeling, and how you’re progressing. Then we help you find the right challenge for that day.

Some days that means pushing harder.

Some days that means scaling back.

Both are part of getting fitter.

The Secret to Results

Everyone wants results.

More energy. More strength. Better health. Greater confidence. The ability to keep up with your kids, tackle adventures, and feel good in your own skin.

The secret isn’t finding the perfect workout.

The secret is consistency with intentional INTENSITY mixed in.

The people who achieve incredible results aren’t necessarily the most talented. They’re the ones who keep showing up. Week after week. Month after month. Year after year.

That’s where real change happens.

CrossFit Is for Everyone

One of the biggest misconceptions about CrossFit is that you need to be fit before you start.

You don’t.

Every movement, workout, and weight can be modified to match your current fitness level.

For example, Dave might use a barbell with 135 lbs on it and be doing kipping pull ups, Mary might use a barbell with 75 lbs on it and do jumping pull ups, and Susan might use a 15 lb bar and be doing ring rows.

The hardest part isn’t the workout—it’s walking through the door for the first time.

After that, the best part is you’re not doing it alone.

You’ll have coaches who guide you, members who encourage you, and a community that wants to see you succeed!

So, What’s the Real Goal?

The real goal of CrossFit isn’t perfection.

It’s not six rounds instead of five.

It’s not a personal record every time you train.

It’s becoming a little stronger, healthier, and more capable than you were yesterday.

And the first step is simple:

Just show up.

Our fantastic coaches here at Misfit Gym Windham will help with the rest.
